The reasons for the new hospital planning
The first reason for the hospital reform in Valais is to improve the quality of hospital care by ensuring, in particular, that the interests of patients take priority, to take into account the new health requirements of the people of the region, to increase the critical mass in each area of medicine, to develop the attractiveness of the various professions in the field of health and, by means of reorganisation measures, to find potential savings that can be made in the medium or long term.

The new distribution of disciplines enables individual medical services optimally adapted to the needs of patients with a high level of quality.
The concentration of disciplines improves, on a professional level, the attractiveness of departments for (potential) employees.
The creation of intersite medical departments (for example: paediatrics, surgery) increases the “critical mass” of patients. Staff gain experience in specialised fields. This enables a collective outlook and recognition as a centre for training and specialisation.
By grouping together all the hospitals and medical-technical institutions of the canton, a structure of cooperation in a network enabling individualised medical services adapted to the needs of the patient to be offered and a degree of high quality effectiveness is developed.
